Road to Hana

We started the day with a stop at Cinnamon Roll Fair where I had a cinnamon roll and Matt had a breakfast sandwich – delicious! And then we were on the way to Hana.

I knew that there would be a possibility that I would get sick on this trip since the Road to Hana consists of 56 one-lane bridges and over 600 hairpin turns – Yikes! I did get nauseous so I was sucking on preggie pops and ginger gum. It took us 3 hours to get to Haleakala National Park, Kipahulu (there are 2 districts to the park; the summit and Kipahulu). **Travel Tip: Your $10 entrance fee into the national park can be used at both entrances over a 3 day period.**

Once there we took the short, half mile walk to view the Palikea Stream and the Pools at Ohe’o. So nice and peaceful. After this we headed back to the ranger station and had the lunch we made.

On our way back we stopped  at Koki Beach Park were we relaxed on the beach and Matt went out to play in the waves. The beach is very beautiful with a red rock cliff and turquoise water. We also stopped at a little art booth and bought a cute little painting of a monk seal by Laura Mango. And once we officially done with this roller-coaster of a road we pulled over at Ho’okipa Beach Park to watch some big waves (maybe 20ft…not really sure).

After cleaning up we headed out for some pizza (something I really seem to crave since becoming pregnant) and found Fabiani’s Bakery and Pizza. I thought it was pretty good; for two 10 inch pizzas and 2 beers (obviously not mine) we were out of there for less than $40…and they say Hawaii is expensive…psh! You can make any place as expensive or inexpensive as you want.
