Movies that Inspire Travel

I watched a few really good movies this weekend and both were set in Europe!

Kidnapping Mr. Heineken
This movie is set in Amsterdam and its based on the true story of when four friends decided to kidnap millionaire and beer mogul Alfred Heineken.

I thought the movie was pretty good and the acting was great.

The Hundred-Foot Journey
This cute movie is about an Indian family that moves to a tiny town in France and opens a traditional Indian food restaurant, one hundred feet away from a famous French restaurant.

This movie is really cute and funny and has a great message!

Movies that Inspire Travel

Chef
In short the movie is about a chef and his food truck. The chef, played by Jon Favreau (I like his movies), lives in LA and is tired of restaurant owners telling him what to cook. So on a family trip to Miami he buys and restores an old taco truck. The traveling part takes place when he then drives the truck from Miami back to LA, making stops in New Orleans and Austin.

The movie is cute and watching it will make you want to eat one of the delicious Cuban sandwiches he makes!

Million Dollar Arm
This movie takes place in LA and India. Its about a sports agent who is working his last angles to find an athlete that will make him money. So he travels to India to find a cricket player that throws fast enough to be a major league pitcher in the MLB. He does this by creating the reality contest Million Dollar Arm. From there the story of two young Indian boys unfolds into a real American dream.

Movies that Inspire Travel

My Life In Ruins came out in 2009 and its about an American woman who moved to Greece to change her life but she became a tour director for a company like Trafalgar. Her boss always gives her the shitty bus and crazy tourist. This movie is funny and SO true if you have ever been on a tour.

The Way is about a father that heads to Europe to recover the body of his son that died walking the "El comino de Santiago". After arriving he decides to finish the walk his son started.

Le Week-End is a drama/comedy about a married British couple that travels back to Paris after visiting there many years ago for the honeymoon. The movie is funny sometimes and then very serious and a little sad at other times.

A Long Way Down is another drama/comedy about four people that find themselves on the same London rooftop on New Year's Eve ready to jump. They decide to make a pact not to jump until at least Valentine's Day. To help them relax and get away they head to the beautiful Spanish island of Mallorca!

Welcome to Sweden is about an American who moves to Sweden after falling in love with a Swedish woman. This show has only aired two episodes in the US and I need to catch up on them!

Movies that Inspire Travel

Girl on a Bicycle: This is a SUPER cute movie! We watched this movie on a whim the other night and it had both of laughing! The story is about an engaged Italian tour bus driver taking tourists around Paris when he notices a beautiful woman riding her bicycle next to his bus. After their meet-cute he ends up hitting her with his bus and having to take care of her and her children (which he adores) all while trying to keep this from his fiancĂ©e!

I thought the movie was adorable and I loved seeing Paris on screen and finally knowing where they were and being able to say, “I've been there!”

The Monuments Men: I saw this in theaters a while back and loved it! Its about an unlikely group of soldiers who are tasked with saving art and museums from the Nazis in WWII. The men end up all over Europe; from Italy to Belgium.

Chicago Fire & Chicago P.D.: This is an American TV show based in Chicago and since we are going there soon I figured I would add it to the list. They film in Chicago and you can get some nice views of the city during some of the episodes.

I am OBSESSED with ChiFire right now! And now when we go I want to find me a CFD t-shirt or something.

What movies have you seen lately?

Movies that Inspire Travel

Over the past few weeks I have watched three movies that are shot in international locations and give me the travel urge even more! (As if I already don't have it enough!)

The Secret Life of Walter Mitty - Walter has to go on this incredible adventure that takes him from his home in NYC to Greenland then Iceland then the Himalayas then to LA and then all the way back to NYC. A good portion of this takes place in Iceland and makes me want to visit the small country even more!

Frozen - Frozen is a cute animated film that got is inspiration from the beautiful country of Norway! Every time I see pictures of Norway's landscape it makes me want to go back there and take my husband with me so he can experience it's beauty as well!

Norway's beautiful fjords

About Time - I'll admit I wasn't too keen to see this but I did any way and I LOVED it! It shows so much of London and the U.K.'s country side and its beautiful. I loved the story too. Seeing this makes me want to see the slower side of the U.K..

Busy London!
Have you seen any of these movies? What did you think? Do movies inspire you to travel?

P.S. I like watching a movie/TV show and being able to say, "I've been there!"
